Embu: Embu County’s healthcare system has received a major boost after receiving a donation of ICT equipment and medical supplies worth Sh5.3 million from the USAID Jamii Tekelezi Programme. The donation included desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones, alongside cancer screening gadgets that are set to support 33 healthcare facilities across the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, Programme Finance Director Moses Mukua stated that the introduction of the equipment is intended to enhance the accuracy of diagnostics and improve timely data monitoring for patients. “We are committed to supporting the healthcare sector in the country and working together with the government to address emerging healthcare challenges,” Mr. Mukua said. Speaking while handing over the donation at Embu Level Five Hospital, the Director noted that this was the second donation in the county, with a prior donation worth Sh9 million made a few years ago.

This initiative, he explained, is aimed at building a resilient health
care system in Embu County to ensure it is equipped to effectively prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to public health threats. Governor Cecily Mbarire expressed that the donation will significantly improve service delivery, enhance efficiency, and overall healthcare outcomes for residents. “These supplies will play a crucial role in transforming how healthcare is delivered in our county by enabling our facilities to operate more effectively and respond to the needs of our people,” she said.

In addition to the equipment donation, the Governor announced plans to employ more healthcare workers to further improve service delivery. “We are soon going to employ more doctors and promote others as per our agreement with their unions,” stated the Governor.
