Sexual and Reproductive Health: REMAPSEN-Burkina Advocates for the Mobilization of Endogenous Resources

Ouagadougou: The African Media Network for the Promotion of Health and the Environment (REMAPSEN), Burkina Faso section, called on Tuesday for the mobilization of endogenous resources for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health. The organization reaffirmed its commitment with a particular focus on promoting family planning through the media.

According to Burkina Information Agency, at its first quarterly meeting of 2026, held in Ouagadougou and titled "The REMAPSEN Meetings," the network emphasized its strategic role in raising awareness among the population about reproductive health issues. The network coordinator in Burkina Faso, Boureima Sanga, highlighted the importance of committed journalism in promoting local initiatives in family planning to foster better ownership by communities. He stressed that the media play a crucial role in raising awareness by providing accurate and accessible information on family planning benefits.

Through its actions, REMAPSEN aims to transform journalists into advocates for better consideration of sexual and reproductive health rights. The network also encourages the mobilization of endogenous resources to support family planning programs, thereby reducing reliance on external partners.

The representative of the Director of Family Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Clarisse Bougouma, applauded this initiative, recognizing media involvement as an essential tool for improving access to information and strengthening public support for reproductive health services.

By adopting a solutions journalism approach, REMAPSEN seeks to contribute to building a society where every citizen is informed and an active participant in their own health, especially in family planning matters. Established in 2020, REMAPSEN unites nearly 400 journalists across several African countries and continues its mission of promoting reliable information in health and environmental fields.
