Luanda: Approximately 2,000 people benefited from free mental health medical consultations, an initiative of the Provincial Public Health Office, as part of the celebrations of the 450th anniversary of the city's founding to be celebrated on January 25.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the consultations were carried out by approximately 200 professionals and specialists in public health, with the aim of raising awareness among the population about the importance of mental health care.
Before the medical care, a walk called "White January" was held, dedicated to the promotion of mental health and emotional well-being; the activity covered about three kilometers. The initiative involved representatives from all municipalities in the province of Luanda, who dressed in white, symbolizing peace, balance, and care for the mind.
Speaking at the event, Luanda deputy-governor for Political, Social and Economic Sector, Manuel Gon§alves, highlighted the importance of celebrating White January as a moment of collective reflection on mental health. He noted, "Many times we think about basic necessities, but we forget about mental health, an essential factor for us to continue developing our activities."
The Provincial Director of Luanda Public Health, Manuel Duarte Varela, stated that the consultations aim to raise awareness and advise the population on the care they should take with their mental health. The Provincial Public Health Office reiterated its invitation for citizens to actively participate in awareness campaigns aimed at promoting dialogue on mental health and the adoption of healthy habits for a more balanced life.
