WALVIS BAY: The bail application for seven individuals implicated in the murder of 24-year-old university student Matheus Sheehama has been postponed to 22 October 2024. The suspects, who made their second appearance at the Walvis Bay Magistrate's Court this Tuesday, are charged with murder, defeating the course of justice, and kidnapping. According to Namibia News Digest, the accused include Sheehama's girlfriend, Jessica !Gaes, her brother Jimmy !Gaeb, and her ex-boyfriend Micheal Zoram Awaseb. They were presented alongside Mervin Wapota, Romano Paulus, Enrico Gomachab, and Moses Kandume. The court delayed the bail hearing due to ongoing investigations, with key evidence such as MTC records and DNA tests still pending. During their court appearance, the second accused decided to represent themselves, while the fifth, sixth, and seventh accused applied for legal aid. The first, third, and fourth accused chose to hire private lawyers. The case has drawn significant attention, with family, friends, and sympa thizers of Sheehama protesting outside the court and submitting a petition urging the authorities to deny bail to the accused. Sheehama was reported missing on 27 July after attending a barbecue with his girlfriend. His remains were later discovered washed ashore at Independence Beach, leading to the arrests. The case is overseen by Magistrate Vicky Nicolaidis, with Prosecutor Annakleta Kandjimi representing the State.
