Residents barricaded the N1 on both lanes with rubbish, stones and burning tyres.

On the 16 May 2023 at about 14:30 angry residents of Mmamahabane walked to the office of the Municipality demanding water. When they did not get any response then they barricaded the N1 road.

Traffic department had to be summoned to control the traffic in Pienaar street slip way to be able to travel through Ventersburg. There were about 350 angry residents in the N1 and R70 road.

Welkom Public Order Policing, Tactical Response Team and Ventersburg SAPS members are at the scene to control the crowd.

A case of Public Violence has been registered for further investigation and nobody has been arrested thus far
