DORI — In response to a deadly motorcycle accident that claimed three lives, including a girl, the provincial coordination of the Séno citizen watch convened a meeting in Dori to discuss preventative measures for traffic accidents, which have become a distressing regularity in the city.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial coordinator of the Séno citizen watch, the tragic event occurred on the night of August 27-28, 2024, and was primarily caused by speeding. This incident prompted the organization to hold a meeting with community representatives to tackle the issue head-on. During the meeting, participants critically assessed the traffic situation in Dori, highlighting issues such as road user incivility and poor road conditions.
Proposed solutions included enhancing young people's and parents' awareness for more responsible behavior, installing speed bumps, repairing road surfaces, enforcing traffic laws through civic education, and monitoring and penalizing speeding offenders. Plans are also in place to engage with administrative, customary, and religious leaders to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign through local media, places of worship, and community gatherings.
