DAKAR – Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the dissolution of the National Assembly on Thursday, with new legislative elections scheduled for November 17, 2024. The decision was made in accordance with Article 87 of the Constitution, following consultations with the Constitutional Council, the Prime Minister, and the President of the National Assembly.
According to Burkina Information Agency, President Faye stated, “By virtue of the powers conferred on me by Article 87 of the Constitution… I dissolve the National Assembly. The date of the legislative elections is thus set for Sunday, November 17, 2024.”
The announcement signals a significant shift in Senegal’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
