Isiolo – In a combined effort, security personnel and village elders in Isiolo County have successfully recovered a large number of livestock, including 201 camels and 10 cattle, that were stolen from the Mlango grazing area in Burat Ward.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Patrick Musango, the security officers and elders pursued the stolen animals, managing to recover 93 camels on the same day of the theft. Mr. Musango detailed the recovery operation, explaining that the trackers divided the search into five zones where they suspected the rustlers had hidden the animals. This strategy led to the recovery of 44 camels in Kipsing, 40 in Tasia, and 16 in Kalama. However, one camel was killed during an exchange of fire between police officers and the rustlers.

Additionally, Mr. Musango reported that eight more camels were found in a valley at Learata in Samburu East Sub-County. He also mentioned the recovery of 300 goats and sheep, stolen three weeks prior, which are set to be returned to their owners in a ceremony overseen by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki at the Mlango Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) camp.

The Deputy County Commissioner further disclosed the recovery of 10 cattle in the Ngaremara area of Isiolo, stolen a week earlier. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among chiefs, assistant chiefs, security officers, elders, and Nyumba Kumi elders in maintaining security in their jurisdictions.

Mr. Musango warned that the government is determined to deal stringently with criminals and their associates to eradicate crime in the area.
