Homa Bay: Traders in Homa Bay town have voiced concerns over a string of violent daytime robberies targeting local businesses, prompting a swift response from local authorities to bolster security measures. The recent surge in criminal activities has seen traders, particularly those operating M-Pesa shops and wholesale outlets, falling victim to armed robberies conducted by groups wielding crude weapons. These incidents have resulted in severe injuries, with three traders currently hospitalized following attacks in the past week alone. According to Kenya News Agency, Jack Nyambega, the chairman of the local traders' association, highlighted the urgent need for enhanced security measures following the attacks, which occurred primarily around Shauri Yako and Bank Road estates. Nyambega reported that the assailants have been using crude weapons to incapacitate their victims during the robberies. "So far there are three traders who have been attacked, robbed, and are now admitted to the hospital," he stated, und erscoring the brutality of the incidents. In response to the escalating security concerns, Homa Bay town subcounty Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat announced a series of steps being taken by local law enforcement to address the situation. "We have put in place several measures, including intensified patrols to nab the suspected thieves and restore peace and order in the region," Kiplagat said. He further noted that cooperation between the police and National Government Administration Officers has been ramped up in an effort to end these robbery incidents decisively. Kiplagat also revealed that the intelligence department has been mobilized to investigate and understand the underlying causes of the rising crime rate in the area. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in these efforts, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. "The rule of law will take its course," he assured, signaling a firm stance against the perpetrators.
