Baringo: In a robust effort to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2024 National Examinations, Baringo County has mobilized over 2,000 security officers to maintain order and safety across the region. The exams, which commenced on Tuesday, are taking place nationwide and involve thousands of candidates in both primary and secondary education assessments.
According to Kenya News Agency, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa, while addressing the media in his Kabarnet office, highlighted the meticulous preparations undertaken by a county multi-agency team. This team, comprising both security and education officials, has been tasked with enforcing the regulations set forth by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to ensure compliance during the Kenya primary school education assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE) exams.
Commissioner Kutwa revealed that 15,502 candidates are participating in the KCSE examinations at 198 centers spread across the county’s seven sub-co
unties. Simultaneously, 17,905 candidates are sitting for the KPSEA exams at 758 stations, with an equal distribution of boys and girls. Additionally, three candidates will undertake their examinations from within prison facilities.
To address potential security concerns, particularly in historically volatile areas, additional personnel have been deployed to bolster security at examination centers. “Areas which had security challenges are relatively calm and we are optimistic that the exams will go on without any hitches,” said Kutwa, expressing confidence in the arrangements.
In a departure from previous years, the commissioner assured that all candidates would sit for their exams at their respective registration centers, thanks to improved security conditions that have mitigated past disruptions caused by insecurity and floods.
