Security Guard Thwarts Armed Robbery at Ga-Hlahla Spaza Shop; Four Suspects Arrested in Seshego

Polokwane—A security guard intervened in an armed robbery at a spaza shop in Ga-Hlahla, part of the Seshego policing area under the Capricorn District.

According to a new release by South African Police Service, the incident unfolded on Saturday, 28 October 2023, at approximately 13:30.

The suspects, driving a white Chevrolet Utility, entered the victim’s shop posing as customers seeking mealie meal. After gaining entry, one of the suspects discharged a firearm into the air. Hearing the gunshots, a nearby security guard from the Gauteng province rushed to the scene and shot one of the suspects. The group then immediately fled the area in their vehicle.

Police were alerted and initiated a case of business robbery. Subsequent to the event, the four suspects, aged between 18 and 35, were located and arrested at Seshego Hospital while seeking medical treatment for the injured member. Upon arrest, the police seized a white Chevrolet Utility, a pistol with a filed-off serial number, and seven live rounds of ammunition.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, has commended the security guard for his bravery and welcomed the swift arrest of the suspects.

The suspects are set to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in the near future as police investigations continue.
