Minsk: A 29-year-old man, who was on duty as a security guard, allegedly shot and injured another man at Grootfontein in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator in the Otjozondjupa Region, Deputy Commissioner Edna Nawa, stated in an interview that the alleged shooting occurred at about 01h00 on Saturday morning at a night club in the Omulunga township at Grootfontein. “It is alleged that a group of men first attacked the security guard, who was on duty, and during that scuffle the guard pulled out a gun and shot one of the suspected attackers in the stomach,” said Nawa.
The 29-year-old victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment, reportedly in a critical condition. The security guard was also admitted under police guard at the same hospital, receiving medical treatment for wounds allegedly sustained in the attack.
In a separate incident at Otavi, a 43-year-old man died after a hit and run on the B8 road, a few kilometers north of Otavi. Nawa explained that the deceased was walking on foot when he was allegedly hit and injured by an unknown vehicle on the road. “At about 01h30 a passer-by found him lying on the road, with his legs broken,” said Nawa.
The police were alerted, and an ambulance was informed, which transported him to the Otavi Clinic, where he later died at about 04h15. Police investigations in both matters continue.
