Second NAMDIA Employee Arrested in Ongoing Diamond Heist Investigation

Windhoek: Namib Desert Diamonds (NAMDIA) has confirmed that a second staff member was arrested on Wednesday, in connection with the armed diamond heist that took place at the company's premises on 18 January 2025. NAMDIA spokesperson Beverly Coussement, in a statement on Thursday, said the latest arrest follows ongoing cooperation between the state-owned diamond trading company and law enforcement authorities.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the implicated employee has been suspended without pay with immediate effect and will remain off duty pending the outcome of both an internal disciplinary process and the criminal investigation, Coussement said. 'The suspension is in line with the company's policy and reflects its commitment to accountability and ethical conduct. The company is taking a firm stance against any actions that compromise its mandate and reputation and will not tolerate any conduct that undermines the integrity of the company, or the trust placed in us by the Namibian people,' she said.

Coussement emphasised that employees are expected to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, noting that any breaches are treated with the utmost seriousness. She said since the heist, which involved armed suspects and the theft of diamonds, the company has faced increased public scrutiny and commended the Namibian Police Force for their role in advancing the investigation and for the continued efforts, professionalism and dedication throughout the complex investigation.

Coussement reiterated NAMDIA's full support for law enforcement and other relevant authorities, stressing that the company will continue to cooperate fully to ensure that all individuals involved are brought to justice.
