ADDIS ABABA — Members of the second generation Ethiopian Diaspora are arriving in Addis Ababa, responding to an invitation from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to reconnect with their cultural and historical roots.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the initiative, announced on December 23, 2023, is designed to engage diaspora youth across three phases, with more than 74,000 participants in the first phase alone. The ongoing second phase, themed ‘Connect to Your History,’ coincides with the Easter holiday, drawing numerous participants to the capital where they were greeted by Tourism Minister Ambassador Nasise Chali among other officials. The third phase is scheduled from June to September 2024.
