Luanda: The Secretary of State for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Alice de Ceita e Almeidas, on Wednesday in Luanda deemed the National Science and Innovation Award a platform for progress, sovereignty, and sustainability in Angola. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the application period for the 2nd Edition of the National Science and Innovation Award 2025, the official said the award also reflects the integration of science, technology, and innovation into Angola’s strategic priorities.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Almeidas emphasized that the recognition is not just a symbolic distinction but a reflection of the strengthening of culture, merit, and the encouragement of local production for national challenges, from food security and public health to energy and digital transformation. The State Secretary highlighted that this initiative is also linked to Angola’s international commitments, such as the sustainable development goals and the 20230 agenda, focusing on quality education, gender equality, innovation, and partnerships.

The creation of this award through Executive Decree of May is a milestone in this journey: we are investing in staff training, research project funding, the modernization of scientific infrastructure, and the promotion of partnerships between the public, private, and academic sectors,” she emphasized. Alice de Almeida reported that the first edition of the award, held in 2024, revealed the immense potential that exists in the country, with high-quality work being recognized that has a direct impact on the lives of communities and the development of key sectors.

The second edition aims to increase participation, especially among young people and women, and to enhance the visibility of the award winners so that they can serve as inspiration for new generations. With the objectives of encouraging and recognizing the contribution of researchers, inventors, and innovators to Angola’s development, the award will also stimulate creativity and innovation in the areas of science and technology for Angola’s development in various fields of knowledge, namely natural sciences, medicine and health, agriculture, veterinary science, social sciences, humanities, and art, as well as fostering a culture of scientific and technological research in the country.
