Saudi Arabia Hosts 56th International Chemistry Olympiad with Global Participation

RIYADH — Today marks the commencement of the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad 2024 in Saudi Arabia, featuring participants from 90 countries. This major educational event has gathered 333 talented individuals and 260 chemistry specialists to compete for medals until July 30, with final results to be announced on July 28.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the International Chemistry Olympiad, an annual event since its inception in 1968 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, represents the pinnacle of international chemistry competitions for general education students. Each year, the event rotates host countries and spans ten days, focusing on fostering talent and knowledge in chemistry.

Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the Olympiad dates back to 2011, with Saudi students consistently securing accolades in various disciplines over the years. The Kingdom’s role as this year’s host, managed by the King Abdulaziz Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Education and King Saud University, underscores its growing stature in the global scientific community. The event is also supported by Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and features the presence of the Minister of Education, Mr. Yusuf Al-Benyan, and Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazza, the Secretary General of ‘Mawhiba’, highlighting its significance to the Saudi educational and scientific sectors.
