Sapouy: The regional celebration of the 169th International Women's Day was held this Sunday in Sapouy, capital of the Ziro province, under the theme: "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: what contribution of women and girls to the promotion of living together?".
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the Governor of the Nando region, Adama Jean Yves B©r©, in the presence of administrative, military, paramilitary, religious, and traditional authorities, representatives of women's associations, and community watch leaders.
In his welcoming address, the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Sapouy municipality acknowledged the presence of the guests and emphasized the thought-provoking nature of this year's theme. According to him, this theme invites every citizen, individually and collectively, to reflect on the essential role of women in consolidating peace and social cohesion.
For the regional coordinator of women's associations, Eug©nie Ou©draogo, women occupy a central place in society, particularly through the education of children and social advancement. She urged women to become more involved as agents of peace, highlighting their strong roots in communities and their potential to drive national development.
The ceremony's patron, Rosalie Niki¨ma/Ou©draogo, who is also the first vice-president of the regional special delegation, expressed her delight at being chosen to preside over the celebration. She emphasized the crucial role of women in building lasting peace and encouraged participants to be principled and dignified, embodying the true spirit of Burkinab¨ women.
Governor Adama Jean Yves B©r© paid tribute to the women of the region for their remarkable societal roles. He referenced the international theme of the day, "Rights, Justice and Action for All Women," and linked the national theme to Burkina Faso's aspiration for peace and sustainable development. He stressed that peace is achieved through actions, respect, and daily solidarity.
The governor assured the women of the administration's support in their pursuit of equality and rights defense. The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to individuals promoting development and social cohesion and included an exhibition of women's local product expertise in food processing, crafts, and market gardening.
This celebration highlighted the essential role of women in socio-economic development and peacebuilding in Burkina Faso.
