Sapouy Welcomes New Chief Under the Name Nemaro Zien

Ouagadougou: The canton of Sapouy welcomes its new chief, enthroned under the name Nemaro Zien. The new chief of the Sapouy canton was officially installed this Saturday, June 27, 2026, during a traditional ceremony rich in symbolism. He will now bear the name Nemaro Zien, which in the Nuni language means "Unity is good."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony brought together sister chiefdoms from several localities in the Nando region, administrative and customary authorities, religious leaders, friends and acquaintances, as well as a large crowd of people who came to demonstrate their attachment to the traditional chiefdom.

In his address, the new canton chief called upon the sons and daughters of Sapouy to cultivate unity, peace, solidarity, and community spirit in order to meet the challenges of local development. The choice of the name Nemaro Zien reflects this commitment to placing unity and social cohesion at the heart of his reign.

The various speakers praised the role of traditional leadership in preserving cultural values, mediating social conflict, and strengthening peace within communities. The canton of Sapouy, comprising approximately 47 villages, is one of the main traditional entities in the Ziro province. Participants offered wishes of wisdom, longevity, and success to the new chief, hoping he would lead his people towards unity, stability, and development.
