DORI — The Maracana Jam Wari (“peace is back”) tournament concluded on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with Santos de Dori defeating Pirakoukou 3-2 on penalties to take home the championship in Dori. The event, aimed at promoting peace and social cohesion, was organized by the Appel du Sahel association and featured intense competition among 10 local teams.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the organizing committee, the tournament began on July 30, 2024, and proceeded smoothly without incident, a testament to the sportsmanship and discipline displayed by all participants. He extended his gratitude to the teams for their fair play and to the spectators for maintaining discipline throughout the event.

The winners, Santos, were awarded a trophy, three footballs, and 70,000 FCFA, while runners-up Pirakoukou received two footballs and 50,000 FCFA. The third-placed team, Tottenham, was given a football and 30,000 FCFA. Mr. Fayçal Maiga, president of the Regional Youth Council (CRJ) of the Sahel and head of the Appel du Sahel association, highlighted that the tournament serves as a platform to foster unity and peace among various social groups in the region.

The event received significant support from local dignitaries and businesses, with Mr. Boureima Moussa Dicko, the first vice-president of the special provincial delegation of Dori, acknowledging the sponsors and emphasizing the importance of unity among the youth for the growth and independence of Burkina Faso. This initiative aligns with the national objectives outlined by President Ibrahim Traoré.
