Sanmatenga: The Secretary General of the Centre-North region, Bernadette Adenyo/Serm©, initiated a significant health campaign in Kaya, marking the start of a census effort aimed at distributing long-lasting impregnated mosquito nets (LLINs) to the region's population.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Regional Director of Health for the Centre-North, Palamanga Ouoba, stated that the campaign plans to distribute over 1 million LLINs to 463,031 households throughout the region. The campaign was officially launched at the home of Bamogo Jean Baptiste in sector 4 of Kaya, with the secretary general representing the governor.
During the launch, each household head received LLINs as part of the effort to protect families from malaria, a disease identified by Adenyo/Serm© as causing significant harm in Burkina Faso. Dr. Ouoba highlighted that malaria is a leading cause of health consultations and a major cause of death among children under five and pregnant women in the region. Therefore, the appropriate use of LLINs is strongly recommended for these vulnerable groups.
The regional secretary general urged beneficiaries to use the nets effectively to prevent the disease, while distributors offered guidance on proper usage. Beneficiary Zongo Mariam expressed gratitude for the nets, promising to adhere to health workers' instructions for their effective use.
The distribution effort, which began on June 18, is set to continue until July 2, 2025.
