Sanmatenga/CCP: The actors examine the situation of the girl and the child

Statutory members of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) of Sanmatenga (Centre-North) examined on Tuesday March 21, 2023, during their first session of the year, the situation of the child and girls, in a context of security and humanitarian crisis.

The participants of the day also looked at ongoing projects in municipalities in the province of Sanmatenga, in the Center-North region.

They also deplored the existence of legal texts, in favor of the protection of children’s rights, the increasingly precarious situation of children in Sanmatenga in a context of crisis.

The Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) was also an opportunity for the participants to strengthen the synergy of actions between the development actors of the province.

According to the head of statistical services of the Regional Directorate of Economy and Planning of the Center-North (DREP-CN), Polycarpe Naré, the security and humanitarian crisis has been raging in Sanmatenga since 2018.

Mr. Naré specified that it has a negative impact on the situation of children and young girls in terms of education, health and nutrition.

According to the statements, these are, among other things, the difficult access to preschool and secondary education, the high prevalence of gender-based violence (GBV) and the abandonment of classrooms by students due to gold panning and unwanted pregnancies.

He also mentioned the reduction in healthcare offers with the closure of health facilities due to insecurity, the unavailability of blood bags in hospitals, the persistence of certain social practices such as early marriage/ forced, excision and social exclusion.

To change the situation, the participants advocated better coordination of interventions and a synergy of actions between stakeholders to better impact the situation of children and young girls in the province.
