Sanmatenga Canton Celebrates Customs and Traditions Day with Patriotic Support

Kaya: Like other customary communities in Burkina Faso, the Sanmatenga canton commemorated the second edition of the Days of Customs and Traditions (JCT) on May 15, 2025. Chaired by His Excellency Naaba Kom, head of the said canton, this second edition mobilized the actors of customs and tradition in a festive atmosphere and allowed the customary authorities to demonstrate their support for the patriotic fund. According to Burkina Information Agency, the day began with rituals performed at 7 a.m. at the royal palace of His Excellency Naaba Koom of Sanmatenga in sector 6 of the city of leather and kebabs in the coura coura. The public square was filled with people and entertained by cultural troupes. His Excellency made a grand entrance on a beautifully harnessed horse, escorted by a group of equines, following the customs of his predecessors. In front of his palace, His Excellency received the allegiance of his ministers and delegations in an organized manner. Among the delegations was that of the administr ative authorities of the region, led by Mrs. Adenyo/Sermé Bernadette, secretary general of the North-Central region. The community of Pissila canton, internally displaced persons, and relatives, along with those of Sanmatenga canton, led by Naaba Saaga of Noaka, participated in the event. The regional secretary general conveyed the governor's best wishes to His Excellency Naaba Koom and extended greetings for a happy holiday. The administrative authority noted the enthusiasm of the stakeholders and expressed hope that other religious groups could also promote this day for the benefit of peace and social cohesion. The JCTs provided an opportunity for the traditional leaders of Sanmatenga canton to officially submit their contribution to the patriotic support fund, totaling 1,800,000 CFA francs. The region's secretary general expressed contentment with the traditional authorities' commitment, noting their example to the population by supporting the government through this initiative. The JCT was highlighted by an exhibition of the canton's cultural potential and popular celebrations to the rhythm of local melodies. Naaba Koom emphasized the importance of the commemoration as a moment of reflection on the contribution of traditional communities to building a strong nation, expressing satisfaction with the mobilization.
