Samburu: Samburu County Commissioner, John Cheruiyot, has assured students and parents of heightened security for the upcoming Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KEPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

According to Kenya News Agency, during the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal town, Cheruiyot highlighted the collaborative efforts between security agencies and the Ministry of Education to secure all examination centers. “We have seven examination containers across the county to ensure that exam papers get to the candidates on time, and I assure you that we have deployed enough security officers to keep our candidates safe during the exam period,” he stated.

Additionally, Cheruiyot encouraged local participation in the Boma Yangu platform for registering ownership of affordable housing units soon to be constructed in Maralal and Archers Post towns. “I urge everyone, especially those in the informal sector, to register for the affordabl
e units. At the Maralal site, 116 units will be constructed while at Archer post a total of 241 units will be put up,” he explained.

In an environmental context, the commissioner also addressed the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate over 30,000 hectares of the previously encroached Kirisia forest. He issued a stern warning against illegal logging and charcoal burning, which threatens the conservation efforts. “It is every citizen’s duty to plant trees and conserve the environment, and I want to warn the few criminals who are sabotaging the government’s conservation efforts that your days are numbered,” Cheruiyot warned.

Samburu County Governor, Lati Lelelit, also spoke at the event, outlining the progress made in collaboration with the national government to enhance security, particularly in the western region of the county. “The establishment of fortified camps in Samburu Central has not only enhanced our security but also instilled a sense of safety among our communities,” Lelelit noted, mentioning that Bara
goi has seen significant peace over the past two years due to these efforts. “Together, we have demonstrated that unity can triumph over division, and moving forward we are building a brighter future where every voice is heard and every life is valued,” he added.
