SAMANDENI — After four months of stocking in the Samandeni dam, 100 tonnes of tilapia fish are expected to be harvested from the 180 floating cages in the coming days, signaling a major milestone in the government’s initiative for food sovereignty.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the first harvest day saw 15 tonnes of fish collected in the presence of several ministers. He described the yield as a significant indication that the agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries offensive, a presidential initiative, is effectively progressing towards enhancing the nation’s food sovereignty.

This project at Samandeni dam is just the beginning, with forecasts suggesting nearly 100,000 tonnes of fish could be harvested by the end of 2025. This initiative not only aims to increase food production but also to ensure sustainable management of aquatic resources in the region.
