Kadiogo: The Sainte-Therese de l'Enfant Jesus association raises awareness about mental health among approximately 200 students at the Zagtouli high school. The association, through its School Mental Health Club, held a direct exchange session on Saturday with students at the Zagtouli high school on the challenges of mental health. This activity aims to raise awareness, train, and support students in order to promote psychological well-being within the school.
According to Burkina Information Agency, approximately 200 students were introduced to understanding and managing emotions, stress, and depression. Several modules were delivered, focusing in particular on the discovery of mental health, self-knowledge, emotion management, and self-esteem.
Alain Ilboudo, a student in his final year of high school, mentioned that this training is beneficial for learners, especially for those in exam classes. 'It allowed us to be mentally strong. We thank the School Mental Health Club for its actions,' he said.
The representative of the principal of the Zagtouli high school, Omar Boulo, welcomed this initiative which has allowed students to better manage their stress, emotions, and traumas, particularly among internally displaced students.
Max Wilson Hombre, president of the association, stated that mental health largely determines academic success. 'For a student, managing their mental health begins with mastering emotions, self-confidence, and self-esteem,' he explained.
Looking ahead, the School Mental Health club plans to set up an inter-school network of student ambassadors for mental well-being, the organizers indicate.
