‘Sacred Tree’ Triumphs at Beo-Neeré du Passoré’s Annual Tournament

YAKO — The ‘Sacred Tree’ sports team clinched the trophy at the 6th annual 72-hour sports event organized by the Beo-Neeré du Passoré association, which concluded on Saturday, August 3, 2024. The event featured a final match against the ‘Garba FC’ team, ending in a narrow 1-0 victory for ‘Sacred Tree’.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the organizing committee, the event drew participation from 16 teams and was conducted in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council. The competition aimed to foster social cohesion within Passoré province. The intense final, consisting of two 20-minute halves, saw ‘Sacred Tree’ secure the win after a series of strategic plays.

In addition to the soccer competition, the event also included women’s cycling, celebrating the athletic prowess of local women with awards in both kind and cash. The ‘Sacred Tree’ team walked away with 50,000 CFA francs, a set of jerseys, and a ball, while ‘Garba FC’, the runners-up, received 35,000 CFA francs alongside similar sporting goods. The teams finishing third and fourth, ‘FC Pro’ and ‘FC Jeunesse’, were also rewarded with cash prizes and equipment.

The event was presided over by Boukaré Zomodo, the prefect and President of the special delegation of the Yako commune, highlighting the theme of ‘Youth and social cohesion’ for this year’s edition.
