Sabou Partners with USCOOP to Build New Maternity Hospital

Sabou: The population of Nabadogo in the commune of Sabou celebrated on Saturday, October 11, the laying of the foundation stone for a new maternity hospital at the CSPS. This project is the result of a collaboration between the Teel-Taaba Association and the Kiswendsida Union of Shea Almond Cooperatives (USCOOP/Kiswendsida) based in Koudougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the official ceremony marking the commencement of the hospital’s construction was presided over by Abdoul Aziz Koara, the prefect and president of the special delegation of the commune of Sabou. Koara expressed his appreciation for the initiative undertaken by the two partnering organizations, highlighting its importance for the residents of Nabadogo.

Dr. Natacha Yriga, representing the Sabou health district, emphasized the significance of the new facility, stating, “We didn’t have a maternity ward in Nabadogo. This new facility will be a real relief for women.”

The project originates from a needs assessment conducted among the women of Teel-Taaba. USCOOP/Kiswendsida President Fran§oise Zoungrana noted that the project addresses a pressing concern identified through the organization’s Development Fund. “The women complained about the overcrowding with the sick during consultations and deliveries. This maternity ward meets this essential need,” she explained.

Habibou Baggnan, the president of Teel-Taaba, expressed optimism about the partnership with the Kiswendsida Union. “Thanks to this collaboration, we have already benefited from a borehole, a storage warehouse, a drying area, school supplies, and insurance for collectors. The entire population benefits,” Baggnan stated.

This maternity hospital represents a significant advancement for maternal and child health in Nabadogo and symbolizes the supportive and sustainable cooperation between local organizations. The Kiswendsida Union, comprising over 500 shea nut collectors, actively participates in local processing, contributing to the development of national resources and aligning with the Head of State’s call to industrialize raw materials.
