S. Korean President Lee Jae-myung Appoints Key Government Officials

Seoul: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who assumed office on June 4, has announced the appointment of six ministers and two senior secretaries, as confirmed by the presidential office on Sunday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Koo Yun-cheol, the former vice finance minister, has been selected to lead the Ministry of Economy and Finance while also serving as the deputy prime minister for economic affairs. Lee Jin-sook, who previously held the position of president at Chungnam National University, has been appointed as the education minister and will also take on the role of deputy prime minister for social affairs.

In the realm of justice, Jeong Seong-ho, a five-term lawmaker from the ruling liberal Democratic Party, has been nominated as the justice minister. Yoon Ho-jung, another five-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party, has been named as the interior minister.

In other significant appointments, Kim Jung-kwan, president of the major plant builder Doosan Enerbility, has been nominated as industry minister. Jeong Eun-kyeong, the former commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has been appointed as the minister of health and welfare.

Furthermore, President Lee has appointed senior presidential secretaries for civil affairs and non-governmental organizations, as well as deputy chiefs of the National Intelligence Service.
