Rwanda Assures Readiness to Host Historic 2025 UCI Road World Championships

Kigali: Rwandan officials on Friday reaffirmed the country's full readiness to host the 2025 UCI Road World Championships from September 21 to 28 in the country's capital Kigali, marking the first time the prestigious cycling event will take place on African soil.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nelly Mukazayire, Rwanda's Minister of Sports, announced at a press conference that the country is fully prepared for the event, with infrastructure, team activation, hotels, hospitality, and communication all in place. Mukazayire highlighted that the event is both a privilege and a responsibility for Rwanda, emphasizing the importance of meeting the expected standards.

Mukazayire stated that the focus is now on details and consistent follow-up until all tasks are completed. She explained that Rwanda is working closely with the UCI, whose experience provides valuable guidance, making collaboration essential for managing every aspect of the competition.

Rwanda Police Spokesperson Boniface Rutikanga assured that the National Police have implemented the necessary resources and capabilities to ensure safety. Security preparations include barriers meeting UCI standards and technical checks on vehicles and motorcycles. A 24/7 command post at the Kigali Convention Centre will coordinate rider movements and monitor race activities.

Rwanda Development Board Chief Tourism Officer Irene Murerwa highlighted the private sector's role, particularly in hospitality and accommodation. Hotels have been prepared with appointed leads and task forces to ensure readiness and fair pricing. Murerwa stressed that the planning process was transparent, making sudden price changes unlikely.
