Russia’s Coal Exports to South Korea Fall to Lowest in 4 Years

Moscow: Russia’s coal exports to South Korea fell to $112.2 million last month, marking the lowest level since February 2021, when they stood at $99.7 million, a RIA Novosti analysis of the Korean statistical data showed on Saturday.



According to Namibia Press Agency, coal deliveries decreased by 19% month-on-month in February 2025 and more than halved year-on-year. South Korea primarily purchased bituminous coal, which is used for electricity generation and rail transport, in February, with purchases amounting to $105.3 million. Anthracite, utilized for heating, water filtration, and in the chemical and metallurgy industries, was imported for another $6.9 million.



During this period, Russia ranked fourth among South Korea’s total coal imports. The top three suppliers were Australia, with exports valued at $280.2 million, Indonesia at $230.3 million, and Colombia at $126.9 million. The United States completed the top five with imports valued at $83.8 million.
