NEW YORK – The newly adopted Pact for the Future at the UN headquarters has faced severe criticism from Dmitry Polyansky:The newly adopted Pact for the Future at the UN headquarters has faced severe criticism from Dmitry Polyansky, the Russian Vice-President to the UN, who labeled the agreement as unbalanced and detrimental to the principles of the United Nations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Polyansky expressed his dissatisfaction on his social network X page, citing that the pact failed to uphold the UN’s foundational principles. “Unfortunately, there is nothing to be happy about in the fact that today the UN adopted the Compact for the Future. The UN violated its own principles to satisfy the group of delegations from the ‘beautiful garden’ that usurped the negotiations from the very beginning. And the majority of the ‘jungle’ herd simply did not have the courage to protest and defend their rights. And they will suffer the consequences,” he stated.
Mr. Polyansky highlighted that the Comp
act contains provisions that could potentially undermine the intergovernmental and multilateral nature of the UN, supported by the UN Charter. “The Compact is unbalanced and contains very dangerous provisions that will have the opposite effect and undermine the multilateralism and intergovernmental nature of the UN, which is supported by the UN Charter. This is a serious blow to the organization as a whole,” he explained.
Furthermore, he criticized the negotiation process, deeming it non-inclusive and a failure, and noted that efforts by the new President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Young, to amend the situation were insufficient and too late.
