Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Highlights Strengthening Ties with Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, on his first visit to Burkina Faso, hailed the burgeoning relations between Russia and Burkina Faso this Tuesday. Lavrov’s visit marks a significant step in the deepening diplomatic engagements between the two nations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the relationship is thriving due to the recent agreements forged between the presidents of the two countries at the second Russia-Africa summit. “Our relations are booming, above all thanks to the agreements reached during the meeting of our presidents,” he said during his arrival, which was met with a warm reception from Jean Marie Karamako Traoré, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During his 48-hour stay, Lavrov is scheduled to meet with President Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso. He expressed gratitude for Burkina Faso’s assistance in revitalizing the Russian embassy in Ouagadougou, stating, “We are implementing a program to resume the activities of our embassies in Africa and Burkina Faso is practically the first country to do so.”

Lavrov’s African tour also includes a large delegation from Congo, emphasizing Russia’s renewed focus on strengthening ties across the continent. Minister Traoré appreciated Lavrov’s readiness for a working session immediately after his arrival, despite the long flight.

The discussions between Lavrov and Burkinabe officials are expected to further the goals set by their leaders, enhancing the cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries.
