Moscow: The Russian government has announced its plan to allocate nearly 180 billion rubles, equivalent to about 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, over the next three years to enhance border checkpoints throughout the country. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during his visit to the Kanikurgan automobile border checkpoint in the Amur Region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mishustin highlighted that the investment will be directed towards the construction, repair, and technical re-equipment of border facilities. This initiative will utilize advanced digital and technological solutions to improve the efficiency and functionality of these checkpoints.
Mishustin stated that a significant nationwide effort is being made to enhance cross-border logistics. As part of the current three-year federal budget cycle, the government aims to use the allocated funds for the development and modernization of border checkpoints to support increasing trade demands.
He further mentioned that over a quarter of the country's existing checkpoints are scheduled for upgrades within the next five years. The focus will be on priority locations crucial to current and future trade flows. Specifically, in the Far Eastern Federal District, more than 30 checkpoints are on the list for improvements.
