Russia Tests Poseidon Nuclear Underwater Drone Following Burevestnik Missile Success

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday the test of the Poseidon nuclear underwater drone, which he stated could not be intercepted and was capable of operating at high speed at depths of more than one kilometer. "No other craft in the world is equal to this one (Poseidon) in speed and depth. There is no way to intercept it," President Putin asserted, specifying that this nuclear-powered weapon can also carry atomic warheads.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Poseidon is intended for nuclear deterrence and will be deployed on the Belgorod submarine, which entered service in 2022. The test of the Poseidon comes shortly after the successful test of the Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile, which boasts an "unlimited range."

These two weapons, announced by Putin in 2018, represent Russia's efforts to enhance its strategic arsenal in response to Western threats. In Greek mythology, Poseidon is known as the god of the seas, earthquakes, storms, and horses, underscoring the power and significance of the weapon bearing his name.
