According to Burkina Information Agency, President Trump emphasized the significance of Russia's role in the war by stating, "We must never forget that Russia helped us win World War II at the cost of nearly 60 million lives," in a message shared on Truth Social, the social network he owns.
Trump further expressed his admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting his good relations with the Russian leader and his affection for the Russian people.
The statement comes amidst various historical accounts which estimate that the Russian Federation suffered approximately 27 million casualties, including both military personnel and civilians, during World War II.
