Moscow: Russia will conduct a dialogue with the BRICS countries on the creation of an alternative to the International Criminal Court (ICC) within the framework of the association, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, earlier this week, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev suggested creating an alternative to the “inefficient” and “irreversibly flawed” International Criminal Court (ICC), for instance within BRICS. Medvedev’s proposal aims to address perceived shortcomings of the ICC by exploring a new platform that can operate within the BRICS framework, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Peskov noted that while he has not yet reviewed the details of the initiative, it has been developed and will be pursued further. Russia plans to continue engaging in discussions with its BRICS partners regarding the possibility of establishing this alternative legal body. The idea is to enhance cooperation and create a system that better aligns with the interests and legal perspectives of the BRICS nations.
