Rural Sport Federation Welcomes New Sports Fields in Omaheke

Omaheke: The Namibia Rural Sport Development Federation (NRSDF) has welcomed the construction of two new sports fields in the Otjombinde and Otjinene constituencies of the Omaheke Region, describing it as a milestone for grassroots athletics. According to Namibia Press Agency, NRSDF president Japandera Procolo Kamburona highlighted in a recent interview that the lack of adequate infrastructure in rural areas has long been an obstacle for the federation. "As those responsible for rural sport development, we are thrilled by the government's decision to bring sports facilities closer to the people," he stated. Kamburona emphasized that the recent groundbreaking ceremonies in Otjombinde and Otjinene are evidence of the government's commitment to advancing sport development nationwide. He mentioned that the NRSDF has faced challenges for a long time, and such developments provide hope for the future. "Otjinene and Otjombinde are among our key partners, and we are pleased that their dream of nurturing talent will be fulfilled," Kamburona added. The NRSDF president also revealed plans to establish rural leagues and indicated that the new fields will support that vision. "We will even be able to host our own rural tournaments, which will reduce the cost burden associated with staging competitions in towns," he noted. Kamburona urged communities to take full ownership of the new infrastructure and cautioned against vandalism. He pointed out that the facilities are expected to stimulate local economic activity and encourage local businesses to invest in sport. "This development goes beyond sport because the local economy will be boosted. Many local teams struggle to secure sponsorships as businesspeople often say games are played in Windhoek, making it difficult for them to assist," he explained. Kamburona also expressed hope that other constituencies across the country will benefit from similar developments in the near future.
