RUNDU—The Sanlam Kavango East Teachers Tournament wrapped up at the Rundu Sports Stadium on Sunday, with the Rundu circuit clinching victories in both the football and volleyball categories. The Ncamagoro circuit successfully defended their netball title.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the annual tournament, which started on September 18, saw participation from teachers across seven regions including Kavango East and West, Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Zambezi, and Omusati. Competing in football, netball, and volleyball, the event aimed to foster camaraderie and wellness among educators while highlighting their crucial roles in community development.
Rundu circuit teams displayed exceptional skill, winning N$8,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals in football. They also continued their dominance in volleyball, winning the category for the third consecutive year and earning N$4,000, a trophy, and gold medals. Meanwhile, the Ncamagoro circuit received N$4,000, a trophy, and gold medals for their victory in the netball category.
The tournament, sponsored by Sanlam with a contribution of N$100,000, similar to the previous year, celebrated the vital contributions of teachers to society. Last year’s winners included the Ompundja Circuit for football and the Outapi circuit for netball from the Omusati Region.
Chairperson of the organizing committee, Chester Mutangara, expressed satisfaction with the 2023 event, noting it successfully united educators from diverse regions, fulfilling its main goal of fostering relationships and shared objectives among teachers. Sanlam representative Hilma Petrus emphasized the tournament’s role in recognizing teachers’ pivotal contributions to shaping the future and promoting health and wellness as integral to community support.
