Sourou: RTB radio is now broadcasting after a three-year hiatus. Burkina Faso’s radio broadcasting company, RTB Radio, has started broadcasting in the city of Tougan after three years without a signal.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the return of RTB Radio in Tougan marks the end of a two-year hiatus for the broadcasting service in the Sourou province, located in the Boucle du Mouhoun region. Since December 2022, the city had been without the radio signal, leaving the community cut off from real-time information.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the people of Tougan tuned in to 88.3 FM to find RTB Radio back on air. Listeners like Sidoa Léandre Dala-Toé expressed relief, noting the importance of the radio as a constant companion. He shared his satisfaction with the return, highlighting how crucial RTB Radio is for receiving timely information.
Ambroise Ki, a teacher in Tougan, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the joy of once again accessing national broadcasts. Although local stations exist, Ki p
ointed out that they do not cover all broadcasts provided by RTB Radio. Both listeners expressed a desire for the return of other services like digital terrestrial television (DTT) and the Télécel mobile network, which were also disrupted.
The lack of a DTT antenna since 2022 has been a significant concern for residents. Ambroise Ki urged efforts to restore the DTT signal, acknowledging the financial burden on those needing alternative subscription services. The absence of these services continues to pose challenges for the community.
Governor Pierre Babo Bassinga of the Boucle du Mouhoun region had previously committed to addressing these issues during a visit on December 27, 2024. The governor promised to find swift solutions to restore not only the radio but also the DTT antenna and the Télécel network, which remain non-operational in Tougan.
