Khost: One person has been confirmed dead and three others sustained injuries as a roof collapsed in eastern Afghanistan’s Khost province on Sunday evening, provincial government spokesman Mustaghfir Gurbaz said Monday. The incident occurred amid heavy rain in Jaji Maidan district, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old woman and injuries to three others, including two children. All injured individuals have been hospitalized for treatment.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Afghanistan, particularly the rural areas, is heavily reliant on mud houses that are vulnerable to natural calamities like rainstorms, snowfall, and flooding. These conditions exacerbate the risks faced by residents, leading to incidents like the recent roof collapse.

The region has been experiencing severe weather, with rainstorms and flash floods causing at least two fatalities and property damage in the provinces of Khost, Logar, and Wardak in recent days. These natural events highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the people in these areas, compounded by the lack of resilient infrastructure.
