Rome: Rome police are taking security measures after the death of Pope Francis, a security plan has been introduced, and patrols are gathering near St. Peter’s Square, the Rome Police Department said on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, earlier in the day, the Holy See announced that Pope Francis died on Easter Monday at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, stated that Pope Francis passed away at 5:35 GMT.
“As the bells announce the death of Pope Francis to Rome and the world, the first security measures are already being taken. After a telephone conversation between the prefect and the chief of police of Rome, a security plan has been put in place, patrols and police forces are gathering in the area of St. Peter’s Square to create the first security zone,” the police said in a statement.
