Rojo Parts Ways with Boca Juniors

Buenos aires: Former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has left Boca Juniors by mutual consent, Argentine media reported on Thursday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the 35-year-old agreed to terminate his contract five months early after his relationship with manager Miguel Angel Russo and other senior staff broke down, as reported by local outlet Infobae. Rojo had joined Boca on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2021 and made 118 appearances, scoring nine goals. This year, however, he featured in only 13 games due to injuries, poor form, and tensions with the coaching staff.

The center-back, who represented Argentina at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, is understood to have received offers to join Boca's domestic rivals Estudiantes and Racing Club. Meanwhile, Boca is currently enduring its longest winless run in history, having gone 11 games without a victory in all competitions.
