Robber Chanties Lead Kunene Football League with Perfect Start

Khorixas: Khorixas-based team Robber Chanties have resumed their strong performance from last season as they strive to establish dominance in the Namport Kunene Second Division Football League.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chanties stand out as the only team among the 11 participating squads to achieve a perfect winning streak at the outset of the Kunene Regional Football League.

Bolla Nangombe, the vice-chairperson of the league, shared the weekend results on Monday, highlighting a total of 27 goals scored in 12 matches held on Saturday and Sunday at Opuwo's Newman Katuta Stadium, the Herbert Conradie Sports Field in Khorixas, and Kamanjab Stadium.

The reigning champions, Robber Chanties, made a decisive move by netting three unanswered goals against Sixty Eleven on Saturday, placing them at the top of the league standings. This was followed by a 4-0 victory over !Ugab FC, further solidifying their lead with six points.

In Opuwo, fans were treated to a weekend of thrilling matches dubbed the derby double fixture. The two games played on Saturday ended in one-all draws. Kunene NamPol faced off against Okarindi Komutati, and Epupa Zebra Stars battled Golden Wolves to a similar outcome.

Aside from the draws in Opuwo, the other matches also concluded in 1-1 draws, including Grootberg United against !Ugab FC, Green Dangers versus Khaibasen, and Etosha United against Young Eagles.

Sunday's matches tested the teams' strengths, with Etosha United achieving a 2-0 victory over Khaibasen, while Green Dangers triumphed over Young Eagles with a 4-0 win.

The encounter between Okarindi Komutati and Golden Wolves was a back-and-forth affair, with both sides trying to seize control. Ultimately, Okarindi Komutati capitalized on their opportunities, securing victory with a single goal.

Meanwhile, Kunene NamPol and Epupa Zebra Stars ended their match in a scoreless stalemate. The round concluded with another 1-1 draw between Grootberg United and Sixty Eleven, wrapping up the second round of the opening season of the Kunene Football League.
