Road Safety and Drug Use Highlighted in Koulse Regional Consultation Framework Meeting

Kaya: The third ordinary session of the Koulse Regional Consultation Framework (CCR), chaired by the regional governor, was held on Tuesday in Kaya. This meeting served as a forum for regional stakeholders to discuss road safety issues and the fight against drug use, particularly in schools.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the CCR, as a body for evaluating and monitoring partner interventions, enabled participants to learn about the activities of the Citizenship Laboratory. On this occasion, the results of the "SOLID¨R" project were presented. Launched in 2022 as part of the "Capacity building of local authorities impacted by the security crisis" component of the Ouaga-Kaya-Dori-Djibo (OKDD) program, this project, planned for a duration of 48 months, shows an average overall implementation rate of 72.82%.

Despite some difficulties encountered, officials noted encouraging prospects for successful implementation by its completion, scheduled for 2026. The session also included presentations on the road safety situation in the city of Kaya. According to data presented by the police's public road section, 448 accidents were recorded during the first three quarters of 2025, an average of more than 148 cases per quarter.

These accidents resulted in 554 injuries and 35 deaths. Police Sub-Lieutenant Kiemtore Martin, head of the public highway section, called for collective responsibility and increased adherence to traffic laws to reduce accidents.

Regarding drug use, the Anti-Drug Unit has drawn attention to the presence of this phenomenon in schools. The speakers emphasized the need for collective action involving authorities, parents, and educational stakeholders to safeguard the future of young people. "Protecting schools means protecting the future of our youth and our nation," one speaker stressed.

The session also provided an opportunity for the Bam Community of Municipalities (CC/Bam) to present itself. Participants praised its role in decentralized cooperation and the pooling of resources to promote the development of the municipalities in Bam province, making it an example of successful inter-municipal cooperation.

The discussions have strengthened awareness among stakeholders regarding issues related to road safety, public health, and youth protection in the Koulse region. At the end of the proceedings, the regional authorities welcomed the successful holding of this last ordinary session of the year and expressed their gratitude to the technical and financial partners whose support enabled the smooth functioning of the consultation framework.
