RIYADH— The 56th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad kicked off yesterday in Riyadh, featuring 333 participants from 90 countries. This event, under the theme “Building Bonds Together,” is being hosted by Saudi Arabia for the first time and highlights the Kingdom’s growing role in international scientific education.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Secretary General of Mawhiba, this year’s Olympiad is not only a competition but also a cultural and educational festival that allows young talents to explore scientific challenges and cultural exchanges. The event aims to foster international collaboration in line with Saudi Vision 2030, emphasizing scientific and educational growth.



The Olympiad, supported by the Ministry of Education, King Saud University, and the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), is set to promote a culture of scientific excellence and innovation among high school students. Dr. Al-Hazza pointed out that the participation and previous successes of Saudi teams in global scientific competitions underscore the Kingdom’s commitment to nurturing young talent.



JL Chiapez, Chairman of the International Steering Committee, commended Saudi Arabia’s warm hospitality and the meticulous organization of the event. He remarked on the vibrant exchange of ideas and cultural diversity evident among the participants, which enriches the Olympiad experience.



The competition, which runs until July 30, will conclude with the announcement of winners on July 28. This gathering of young scientists is a testament to the power of international cooperation in addressing global challenges through education and scientific inquiry.
