Windhoek: Veteran Swapo Party member and seasoned diplomat Dr Kaire Mbuende has urged the public to support Swapo in delivering the Katutura Central Constituency, with Muesee Kazapua as their sole candidate for the councillor position on 26 November.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibians go to the polls on 26 November to elect Regional Council and Local Authorities leaders for the next five years, and Mbuende asserts that Katutura Central, governed by the opposition party, has experienced minimal to no development, urging for Swapo's return to the leadership of the constituency.
Mbuende was speaking at Swapo's mini rally in Katutura on Sunday, where the ruling party was campaigning to amass supporters for Kazapua. "The coalition and opposition parties are not effective at the helm of the constituency and local council; it is time to give Katutura back to Swapo," he remarked, while criticizing opposition parties for their inability to achieve tangible results while managing the city and the constituency.
Swapo, according to Mbuende, is on a mission to rekindle Katutura Central, noting that the constituency has lost its value under the opposition. "Katutura is losing its value; we need change. The current leadership has no vision for the constituency's status quo. Katutura is a huge responsibility that needs a leader of pedigree like Kazapua," he said.
Kazapua, who served as mayor of Windhoek for five years (2014-2018), will contest for Katutura Central on the Swapo party ticket. He, too, believes that Katutura needs change and that he is the best man for the job. "Without underestimating my competitors, I am the right man to lead. Most of you have seen my work," he said, adding that his past work is a testament to his great leadership. Kazapua urged his competitors to withdraw now to avoid facing significant embarrassment on November 26.
Speaking at the same event, former Member of Parliament Charmain Tjirare mentioned that some politicians are engaging in cheap political tactics by using chairs, firewood, and bones as campaign donations. "Do not be deceived; do not forget because of the donations you receive. Think critically and vote for the Swapo candidate who will advance the nation," she stated. Tjirare further questioned the effectiveness of the current constituency leadership, stating that its presence among the masses is low. She emphasized that Kazapua is here to address those gaps.
