Narok: Narok Central Sub County Police Commander John Momanyi has raised concern over increased misinformation spread through social media platforms that has the potential to cause tension in the county. He warned that those spreading such information through platforms with the aim of causing unrest among the people would be arrested and charged in a court of law accordingly.

According to Kenya News Agency, the concern comes a day after a body was found lying at Nyawira streets in Narok town on Sunday, where rumours spread on social media that the man had been hacked to death by a group of thugs operating in the town. Momanyi, who was speaking to the press in his office, dismissed the claims, saying initial investigations showed that the body had no physical injuries and that there was no proof that the man had been hacked to death as per the information spreading on social media.

He asked bloggers and those interested to create content in their social media handles to get confirmed information from the police before publishing anything that could cause tension to the members of the public. Momanyi confirmed that security was tight in the county and no major incidents had been reported, and he welcomed investors and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the conducive environment to invest in the area.

While speaking in a different function, Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu revealed that criminals flood the town during the wheat harvesting season but was quick to confirm that measures had been put in place to ensure the criminals are arrested. “Last year, we experienced insecurity during the wheat harvesting season when there was a lot of money circulating in our town. This year, we will intensify patrol in all trading centers in our counties so that no criminal hides in our midst,” said Ntutu.
