Residents of Vihiga Sub-County Assured of Security During Festive Season

Vihiga: Residents of Vihiga County have been assured of their security during this festive season. Speaking during the Sub-County Security and Peace multi-agency committee meeting at the DIDC hall, the area Assistant County Commissioner, Felix Maiyo, called on all stakeholders to ensure security is heightened during the season.

According to Kenya News Agency, Maiyo urged business owners to remain alert and engage energetic watchmen to guard their business premises, in addition to regular patrols by security agencies. Maiyo expressed concerns over the employment of elderly watchmen, emphasizing that they may not be capable of effectively defending the premises against potential threats.

The administrator further recommended the installation of security lights and CCTV cameras on business premises to deter criminals who prefer to operate under the cover of darkness. He also advised church leaders planning overnight prayer meetings to obtain permits from their respective OCSs.

Maiyo highlighted the importance of timely information sharing and communication between the security team, multi-agency stakeholders, and the community, noting that prompt information relay can prevent many insecurity incidents.

Area police commander Wilson Ocharo echoed the call for vigilance, urging village elders, community policing, and Nyumba Kumi officials to report incidents promptly to ensure timely response by security agencies. He also reminded attendees of the Maragoli cultural festival to maintain peace and warned that any breach of security would be met with legal consequences.
