Baku: Residents of the Manga Detention and Correctional Facility (MAC) organized a cleanup and reforestation day on Thursday within the grounds of the Manga Royal Court, as part of the commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The activity, which mobilized prisoners, judicial, customary, and administrative authorities, aims to promote the social reintegration of people deprived of their liberty while raising awareness among the population of their role in improving detention conditions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the chairman of the organizing committee, the judge responsible for the enforcement of sentences, Ali Tarpaga, stated that this initiative aligns with the missions of monitoring and supporting detained persons. 'Conditions in detention are not always easy. It is important to offer prisoners opportunities to participate in useful activities, to entertain themselves, and to remind them of their rights and responsibilities,' he explained.
Mr. Tarpara indicated that the organizers have chosen this year to spread the commemorative activities over several days, instead of concentrating them solely on July 18, the official date of Nelson Mandela International Day. The program includes sanitation operations, including one carried out in the royal court of Manga, reforestation activities at the Manga Detention and Correction Center, socio-educational activities for the benefit of prisoners, as well as radio programs dedicated to social reintegration.
Through these various initiatives, the organizers intend to bring the public closer to the prison administration and to raise awareness of the actions taken to prepare prisoners for their return to society. The chairman of the organizing committee invited the people of Manga to actively participate in the scheduled activities and to pay closer attention to the situation of people deprived of their liberty.
"Prison concerns the whole of society. No one is immune to deprivation of liberty and no one would wish to be detained in undignified conditions," he stated, before encouraging citizens to listen to the radio program planned as part of this celebration to better understand the social reintegration measures implemented by the Manga High Court.
The chief of the Manga canton, Naaba Kiiba II, praised the organizers' initiative. He thanked the Manga prison for this cleanup and reforestation operation organized within the grounds of the royal court. "The royal court is yours. To the prisoners, I wish to one day regain their freedom in order to successfully reintegrate into society, like Nelson Mandela who, after experiencing prison, became President of the Republic," declared the customary sovereign.
