NYANDARUA: Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha has appealed to the residents of Nyandarua to maintain peace in the face of escalating political tensions across the country. Speaking at the Mashujaa Day celebrations held in the Mutanga area of Ndaragwa Constituency, the governor emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect as key drivers of development both locally and nationally.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Badilisha commended the efforts of the Mau Mau remnants for their role in safeguarding public land in Ndaragwa. He assured the community that his administration would ensure no public lands in Nyandarua are privatized. Addressing the historical injustices suffered under colonial rule, Badilisha expressed the need for national government-led compensation for veterans, while highlighting the county’s initiative to support freedom fighters through the Social Health Insurance Fund.

Governor Badilisha reflected on his two-year tenure, noting notable progress across various
sectors despite financial challenges stemming from national government fund disbursement issues. He reported the disbursement of Sh420 million in bursaries to over 100,000 learners to aid school retention rates.

In agriculture, the county has facilitated artificial insemination services for approximately 3,100 cows at a subsidized rate of Sh400 and provided high-yielding super Napier grass to farmers. The county is also exploring the introduction of cash crops such as sugar beet, avocado, and apple to bolster the local economy.

The governor announced the establishment of new municipalities aimed at improving solid waste management, fire response, and business development. Additionally, the health sector has seen an increase in facilities from 75 to 86 and the employment of over 100 health workers, with plans to further expand the workforce.

Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirazaak Jaldesa urged residents to register with the Social Health Insurance Fund, emphasizing community unity and patriotism. He prais
ed the public for their role in combating illegal activities, including the eradication of illicit brews and tackling livestock theft.

The event was attended by political leaders, county officials, and other dignitaries.
